Eye Clinic of Wisconsin Welcomes New Provider

Posted by ecwadmin on September 1, 2022 in General.

Residents of central and northern Wisconsin communities to benefit from new Ophthalmologist.

With the addition of a new ophthalmologist to the already well-established Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, regional residents will soon have even greater access to its state of the art comprehensive and subspecialty eye care. The new provider will begin seeing patients in early September at Eye Clinic locations throughout central and northern Wisconsin.

“At the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, exceptional patient care is first and foremost. This means not only providing routine, specialized, and surgical eye care, but providing that care with compassion and respect. Our focus was finding a physician who will apply their accomplished medical and surgical skills and approach care in a compassionate and respectful way,” says Kim Goddard, Eye Clinic of Wisconsin Administrator. “We believe Dr. Gandy will do just that.”

Dr. Gandy, an ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma care and cataract surgery, earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. The following year, she completed an internship at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College, followed by Glaucoma Fellowship at the Duke Eye Center of Duke University in 2022.

The Eye Clinic of Wisconsin began in 1963 as a small eye care practice in downtown Wausau, founded by brothers Dr. Gordon Backer and Dr. Bill Backer. In the last 60 years, the Eye Clinic has been a pillar in the community and has experienced sustained growth, including employing nearly 200 employees across its seven locations. With 13 Ophthalmologists, 7 Optometrists, and an Audiologist, the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin offers specialty services that include cataract surgery, pediatric eye care, oculo-plastics, glaucoma services, retinal care, LASIK and refractive surgery, corneal care – as well as surgery performed within the Eye Clinic’s ECLSI Laser and Surgery Center. The Eye Clinic of Wisconsin is truly the definition of a comprehensive eye and hearing care center.
