Eye Clinic of Wisconsin Welcomes Three New Providers From Across the Nation

Residents of central and northern Wisconsin communities to benefit from increased number of Ophthalmologists.

With the addition of three new ophthalmologists to the already well-established Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, regional residents will soon have even greater access to its state of the art comprehensive and subspecialty eye care. The new providers will begin seeing patients in early September at Eye Clinic locations throughout central and northern Wisconsin.

“At the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, exceptional patient care is first and foremost. This means not only providing routine, specialized, and surgical eye care, but providing that care with compassion and respect. Our focus was finding physicians who will apply their accomplished medical and surgical skills and approach care in a compassionate and respectful way,” says Kim Goddard, Eye Clinic of Wisconsin Administrator. “We believe these three providers will do just that.”

The incoming physicians will relocate to the Wausau area from across the United States, and are currently booking appointments for new patients.

Dr. John A. Flatter, an ophthalmologist with a focus on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery, earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and completed his residency at Penn State Eye Center in Pennsylvania. He has served with World Blindness Outreach in the Dominican Republic, providing care for cataract and corneal transplant patients.

Dr. Afua A. Shin, an ophthalmologist specializing in corneal care and LASIK eye surgery, led an independent research project in Tokyo, Japan, before going on to complete her medical degree at Washington University in St Louis School of Medicine in Missouri. She completed her residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and her Cornea and External Disease fellowship at the University of California Davis.

Dr. Deepak Sambhara, an ophthalmologist specializing in medical retina and diseases of the vitreous, earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and completed his residency at Penn State Eye Center in Hershey, PA. Dr. Sambhara spent additional time training at Duke Eye Center in North Carolina, where he completed his fellowship in Medical Retina and Diseases of the Vitreous Cavity, and was trained in cutting-edge techniques for diagnosing and managing retinal diseases.
