Inaugural Recipient Chosen for Dr. Backer Memorial Scholarship

The Eye Clinic of Wisconsin is pleased to announce that Hanna Lambrecht of DC Everest Senior High School in Schofield is the 2015 inaugural recipient of the Dr. Gordon Backer Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was created to honor Eye Clinic founder Dr. Gordon Backer after his passing in 2014. It was available to students in seven counties that were graduating high school this spring and entering college full-time in a healthcare focus. “The process was very competitive, having received almost 60 well-qualified applications from students across central and northern Wisconsin,” says Dr. Kevin Flaherty, the Eye Clinic’s Scholarship Committee Chair. “Dr. Gordon Backer would have been proud to see so many young capable lives looking to help others through a health career.”

Hanna’s academic and volunteer activities, as well as her personal statement, set her apart from the other candidates. She will be attending Northcentral Technical College to study nursing this year, and has been awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship to use toward her future studies.

The scholarship will renew again in 2016.
