Patients in Northern Wisconsin Can Receive Eye Care by Board Certified Doctor

Posted by ecwadmin on November 20, 2013 in Education, Health.

(RHINELANDER, WI) November 15, 2013 – The Eye Clinic of Wisconsin’s Dr. Matthew J. Johnson, OD, completed the requirements to obtain his board certification in optometry.  American Board of Optometry (ABO) board certification is a process that allows doctors of optometry to demonstrate that they exceed baseline requirements and are maintaining the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience needed to deliver quality eyecare. To maintain ABO board certification, an optometrist participates in an extensive process that involves completing approved education, computer assessments, practice improvement exercises and periodic exams to demonstrate competence.

Dr. Johnson has provided quality eye care to families in the Rhinelander area for the past six years. Prior to joining the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin, Dr. Johnson worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Madison, WI and at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Ophthalmology in Madison.

“Helping people have the best vision possible is my commitment,” said Dr. Johnson. “When a person comes to me with vision problems, I want to help. I know when a person is able to see better, everyday tasks become easier, resulting in a better quality of life. When I am able to help someone see more clearly, it makes my day.”

Dr. Johnson received his Bachelor of Science in Visual Science (BSVS) and his Doctorate of Optometry (OD) from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois in 1999.  He completed his pre-optometric coursework at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and his Optometric Residency at the Manchester VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire in 2000.

Dr. Johnson is one of 17 ophthalmologists and optometrists on the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin team. For over 50 years, the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has provided comprehensive vision care to families in Central and Northern Wisconsin. In addition to routine eye exams and a full-service optical center, the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin recently added an audiology department and a dedicated surgical center. With six locations and an experienced staff of professionals, the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has the expertise to care for the vision and hearing of patients of all ages.
